In December 2003, Amnesty International partnered with Storm on a global communications
strategy to end Violence Against Women.
This was Amnesty International Canada's first foray into addressing social issues in a non-political forum.
Our task was an important one: help raise awareness and attention for the global problem of abuse against
women and do it in a way that was arresting but not shocking. Through research, we knew that the problem
was known to many but was either tuned it out or simply not spoken out against. We hoped to draw attention
to the people surrounded by the problem and inspire them to act out against this horrific problem.
We created a series of posters and supporting information materials and we supported the information
campaign through PSA's, and government lobbying efforts, primarily aimed in African nations and the UK.
Feedback Amnesty has been very strong since the launch of the campaign. Today, more people are talking
about and addressing this this problem than ever before. The work itself has been awarded nationally and
internationally, and the posters and information materials continue to be referenced in news coverage globally.
We're extremely proud of our association with Amnesty International.
